The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) is a recruiting agency which organizes different types of tests each year for recruiting selected candidates for banks. These may include Probationary Officers (PO), bank clerks, officials, and many more such people. The test, known as the Common Written Examination (CWE) is conducted each year. The candidates must attempt aptitude questions in quantitative analysis, reasoning, general knowledge, computer awareness, and English language skills. About 200 questions must be attempted within two hours.
How to Tackle IBPS PO Computer Awareness
The applicants are required to answer the test online. So, working knowledge of computers is a must. They must also have a working email ID where details of the call letter and other related information from IBPS test needs to be posted. Even the pre-examination tests are organized online. In short, whether for SBI jobs or IBPS jobs, the candidates must know how to use the PC and the Internet for the CWE test.
Although applicants generally study reasoning skills, practice mathematics and read novels to brush up on their logical, analytical, and language skills, yet many don’t gear up for their computer awareness skills. As computers along with Internet facility are used frequently at home for day-to-day communication, applicants often think that they are ready to tackle the IBPS PO computer awareness program.
However, it is not so. Today, banks work on core banking solutions (CBS) where the entire banking operation is done online. The branches are interconnected and transaction is done through intranet. The bank clerks and POs must use their workstations as well as communicate with other officials through the intranet. For this, it is necessary to gear up for the IBPS PO Computer Awareness program if the candidate is looking for a suitable post as a PO.
The IBPS PO computer awareness section as well as bank recruitment exams for SBI usually have the following sections:
- Parts of a computer
- Hardware and Software applications of a PC
- Internet usage
- Use of websites, intranet, and software applications
Previously, it was not necessary to produce a computer literacy certificate. However, today it is essential to produce a computer proficiency certificate. This qualification is a must along with other educational qualification needed for the candidate to be eligible for the exam.
How to get Computer Proficiency Certificate for IBPS PO and Clerk?
Candidates can get a certificate, diploma or a degree from a recognized institute on IT and basic computing skills. There are many private institutes which offer computer literacy programs today. The duration for the computer certificate is usually 3-to-6 months or so. In case the applicant has a graduation in computers, say a Computer Science graduate, no certificate is required for this purpose. The graduation certificate is good enough.
IBPS Clerk Computer Awareness Section
Quite similar to the IBPS PO exam, the applicants who want to apply for the IBPS Clerk computer awareness section must also be computer literate. Like all sections in the IBPS Clerk test or tests for SBI exams, the computer awareness section is also a multiple choice one. There are about 20 questions in the section with each question awarded one mark. For an incorrect answer, 0.25 mark will be deducted.
The questions are usually on history of computers and basic computer fundamentals. There are computer abbreviations, working knowledge of computers, keyboard shortcuts, networking, use of the net and social media networking.
If you are all set to sit for IBPS PO bank exam 2015 or SBI exams this year, make sure you have the necessary computer knowledge to do the same.
