What is IBPS RRB Syllabus?

As an aspirant of RRB CWE, you must have known and seen the official released notification for RRB CWE 2015 by now. If you haven’t, check it out over here. Online Application for this exam will start from 8th July, but students are looking to start their preparation from now to excel in their exam and move one step closer to their target. In this Article we’ll provide you with the information regarding the IBPS RRB Syllabus.


IBPS RRB Exam Dates:

5th, 6th, 12th, 13th, 19th, 20th, 26th, 27th September 2015

In the previous article, we have discussed about IBPS RRB Exam pattern. Basically there are 5 different RRB CWE papers for their respective posts, which are:

  • Paper for the post of Office Assistant (Multipurpose)
  • Paper for the post of Officer Scale-I
  • Paper for the post of Officer Scale-II (General Banking Officer)
  • Paper for the post of Officer Scale-II (Specialist Cadre)
  • Paper for the post of Officer Scale-III.

These 5 different papers have different syllabus, but only in terms of sections arranged among them differently as per the requirement of that post. Of all there are basically 5 main sections. We will discuss the important topics (Chapters) within these sections below:

1. Reasoning (50 Marks) :

Reasoning Section has 2 sub-section within it, i.e. Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning. Verbal Reasoning consists of question based on sentences while non verbal reasoning consists of only graphical questions.

2. Quantitative Aptitude and Data Interpretation (50 Marks) :

  • Number system,
  • HCF and LCM,
  • Simplification,
  • Average,
  • Algebraic Equations and Inequalities,
  • Percentage,
  • Profit and Loss,
  • Ration and Proportion,
  • Partnership,
  • Mixture (Allegations),
  • Interests,
  • Time and Work,
  • Speed, Distance and Time,
  • Geometry,
  • Mensuration,
  • Power and Square Roots
  • Cube, Indices and Surds,
  • Sequence, Series and Logarithm,
  • Permutation and Combination,
  • Probability,
  • Approximation,
  • Pie charts,
  • Bar, Line and Mixed graphs,
  • Case study,
  • Data tables,
  • Probability.

3. English language (40 Marks):

The paper for this section will be available only in English Language. Marks allotted for this section is 40, except for the Officer Scale-II (Specialist Cadre) paper for which marks allotted is 2o.

  • Synonyms and Antonyms,
  • Analogies,
  • Sentence Completion or Fill in the Blanks,
  • Idioms and Phrases,
  • Grammar,
  • Reading Comprehensions,
  • Passage,
  • Spotting errors,
  • Phrase substitution,
  • Jumbled up sentences,
  • One word substitution,
  • Commonly misspelled words.

4. General awareness with special reference to banking industry (40 Marks) :

General Awareness Sections basically includes:
  • India: At a Glance,
  • World: At a Glance,
  • Sports: At a Glance,
  • Economy and Business: At a Glance,

This section is meant to check your awareness of what is going around in the world. Update on Last 6 months of current affairs will be enough for RRB Exam preparation. Current info on Indian Economy, International Economy, Terms of Banking, Reserve Bank of India’s Policies, Fiscal Policies, Monetary Policies, Repo rate, Reverse repo rate, Social functions organised by different banks, UNO, Marketing, Awards & Honors, History of Banking, etc.

5. Computer knowledge (20 Marks) :

Important Topics: 
  • Basics of Computers,
  • Computer Organization,
  • Generations of computer,
  • Input & Output Device,
  • Shortcuts Used in Computers,
  • Basic knowledge of different tools of Microsoft Office, i.e. MS word, MS Excel, MS power point, etc.
  • Memory Orientation,
  • Internet,
  • LAN,
  • WAN,
  • Modems,
  • Computer Abbreviations,
  • Modern day Technology.

Additionally there is an option for Hindi Language (As and alternative to English for 40 Marks):

The paper for this section will be available only in Hindi language.
Important Topics: 
  • Hindi Grammar (Vyakaran),
  • Hindi word Errors,
  • Same Words, i.e. Synonyms(samanarthak shabd),
  • Opposite Words, i.e. Antonyms (vipritarthak shabd),
  • Paryaywachi Shabd,
  • Paragraphs (gadyansh),
  • Completing the sentence and Fill in the blanks, etc.

    Dear Sir,
    I want ask about age related question, As per notification for RRB- Officer scale-1 as required is Born not earlier than 03.07.2016. My D.O.B is 01.01.1985. So on the basis of OBC category can I apply for this post. please suggest me. I am totaly confuse.

    Sir l am from insurance background as a Channel Sales Officer in PNB Metlife India Insurance Co. Ltd. and has experience about 2 years. and along with this I have done B.Com in Financial Planning from Sikkim Manipal University by distance mode. the most important think is have a big gap in my graduation after 12th-2004. and graduation completed in 2015. so please sir suggest me can I apply in RRB-CWE. for officer scale-2(GBO). insurance experience will be consider or not. Thanks.

      Hi Ram Kewal,

      YOu can apply for RRB CWE only next year as this year the recruitment process is over and interviews are being conducted. SO you can apply next year. The notification comes out around June/July and the exam is held around September.

        Dear Sir,
        I am Agri.post graduate and working in State Bank of Patiala as Officer Marketing and Recovery-Rural on contract basis since July, 2008. and want to know that if I passes the Scale-111 (specialist cadre) upcoming examination held by IBPS for Regional Rural Banks , then , I will be eligible to face interview for the opted Regional rural banks or not ? as i am working on contract basis and not having PF Number and Salary Salip generated by the HRMS.

          PF number and salary slip is fine if you do not have, as long as you can produce some document that proves you are indeed working with SBI.
